Knotless braids: what shapes the price in 2026
Knotless braids are the most requested braiding style on Afrihelps, with box braids, passion twists and loc retwists close behind. Braiders price on time, size, length and what you bring to the chair, so the same photo can land very differently from one pro to the next.
How braiders price this
Most braiders quote a flat price per style with size and length tiers built in, and list add-ons like a wash and blow-dry, curled ends, boho curls, beads or cuffs separately. Knotless usually sits above box braids at the same size because the feed-in technique takes longer; passion, Senegalese and spring twists are often priced close to box braids. A loc retwist is priced by the length and density of your locs, how much new growth there is, and whether you want a style afterward.
What moves the price
Size is the biggest factor: small and extra-small braids can take twice the hours of medium, and some braiders only take them as a full-day booking. Length is next, since waist, butt or knee length means more packs of hair and more time finishing ends. Prep matters too. Arriving washed, detangled and blown out can save an hour or more, and many quotes assume you come prepared. Some braiders include hair; others ask you to bring a specific brand and number of packs.
Mobile vs salon
A braider who travels to you saves you a trip but spends their own time and gas, so many add a travel fee or a minimum booking. A salon chair gives you a sink, good lighting and sometimes an assistant, which can cut your time in the chair. Neither is automatically cheaper; ask how the quote changes if you come to them.
Ways to save without cutting corners

Common questions
Why are knotless braids priced higher than box braids?
The feed-in technique adds hair gradually, which takes longer per braid than a box braid knotted at the root. More chair time means a higher quote.
Does it cost less if I bring my own hair?
Often, but not always; some braiders build hair into one price. Ask directly, and ask which brand and how many packs so you do not show up short.
Is a retwist cheaper than a full reinstall?
Usually, because a retwist only tightens new growth on existing locs. If your locs need repair or a restyle, tell the loctician up front.
